Our History
Greater Grace Chapel began to formulate in early October
of 2016. Pastor Al Stewart, Pastor Rob Stream, and a group of about 25 friends in Christ, felt a tug on their hearts to create a fellowship where genuine authenticity and community would be some of the foundational stones to building a church. This is how our mission statement developed; "Real People, Authentic Grace”. This idea became a reality on November 13, 2016 when GGC launched for the very first time. GGC held it's first service at Waterlick Chapel on Timberlake Road in Lynchburg, VA.
Today we hold our services at 201 Sweeney Circle in the Knights of Columbus building. GGC is styled in the Wesleyan-Arminian view of Holy Scripture, valuing both God's Sovereignty as well as man's free will. In short, we agree with St. Augustine when he said "In Essentials Unity, In Non-Essentials Liberty, In All Things Charity."
Pastor Al Stewart was the Senior Pastor at GGC for 5 years, he retired from GGC and moved to Daytona Beach, FL in 2021. In his retirement, the Lord called Pastor Al to launch a sister church in 2022, Greater Grace Chapel - Daytona Beach.
Today, Pastor Rob and Lisa Stream lead the GGC-Lynchburg church family. Pastor Rob has served as a Youth Pastor, a Worship Leader and an Adult Ministry Pastor at previous churches. The Streams have a heart to see Greater Grace continue in it's distinctive family style; a group of real people, extending authentic grace to Forest/Lynchburg and the surrounding communities.
